[캄보디아 여행] 캄보디아의 최초의 야시장 ‘앙코르 나이트 마켓(Angkor Night Market)’

시엠립에서 관광객들에게 가장 인기있는 관광지 두 곳을 꼽으라면 아마도 앙코르와트 사원과 야시장일 것이다. 낮에는 앙코르와트 사원을 구경하고 앙코르 나이트 마켓은 밤에 거리를 걸으며 먹거리, 기념품, 옷 등 쇼핑을 즐기는게 전형적인 시엠립 관광 방식으로 알려져 있다.

앙코르 나이트 마켓은 캄보디아어로 ‘프싸 리어뜨라이 앙코르’이다. 2007년에 처음 생겼으며 캄보디아 최초의 야시장이다. 낮에는 앙코르와트 사원을 구경하는 것만으로도 벅차 시장까지 볼 틈이 없는 관광객들을 위해 밤에 여유롭게 쇼핑을 즐길 수 있도록 앙코르 나이트 마켓을 조성했다고 한다.

앙코르 나이트 마켓에는 초가지붕과 대나무로 만든 대략 240개의 상점이 있다. 대부분의 상점에서는 주로 캄보디아의 전통 수공예품, 옷, 실크, 보석, 그림과 여러 기념품을 팔고 있다. 야시장에서 파는 물건들은 주로 시엠립 주변의 외진 시골마을에서 캄보디아인들의 수공업을 통해 만들어진 물건들이 대부분이라고 한다.

앙코르 나이트 마켓은 환한 불빛으로 가득하다. 시장 바닥에는 자갈도 깔려있고 나무로 길도 만들어져 있어 깔끔하다. 캄보디아 어느 시장보다도 잘 꾸며놓은 시장이라고 할 수 있다. 시장입구에는 지뢰사고로 인한 피해자들이 전통 음악을 연주하며 동냥을 하고 있는 안타까운 모습들도 보일 것이다. 시장에는 가족이나 친구들에게 기념품으로 사다줄만한 물건이 많이 있다. 물건을 살 때엔 꼭 흥정해야 하는 것도 잊지 말자. 물건에 따라 다르긴 하지만 처음 부르는 가격에서 절반 가격은 깎고 보는 것이 좋다. 원하는 가격을 부르고 가는 척을 하면 대부분 상인들은 다시 불러서 싼 가격에 주곤 한다.

기념품에 관심이 없는 관광객들은 먹거리를 즐겨보는 것도 좋겠다. 시장을 둘러보면 각종 현지 간식거리들을 파는 곳들이 보인다. 지나가다가 바나나 팬케이크가 보이면 꼭 한 번 먹어보도록 하자. 곳곳에 앉아서 쉴만한 벤치도 있으니 돌아다니다가 지치면 음료를 마시면서 벤치에 앉아 쉬면된다. 더 편히 쉬고 싶다면 마사지를 받아보는 것도 좋다. 닥터피쉬 마사지, 전신 마사지, 발마사지, 스파 등도 찾아볼 수 있으며 바도 몇 군데 있다. 가격은 조금 비싼 편이라고 하니 참고하도록 하자. / 글 : 박슬기 , 자료제공 : 멩 보렛
