캄보디아는 왜 베트남, 태국, 중국에서 수입할까?

캄보디아는 자연재해로부터 자유롭다 할 수 있는 나라다. 다른 나라들처럼 지진이 나거나 쓰나미가 오거나 화산이 폭발하지도 않는다.

예로부터 캄보디아는 날씨가 좋으니 농사를 짓는 사람도 많았다. 그래서 예전에 캄보디아는 식료품을 수입하지 않고 모두 국내산으로 해결 했었다. 하지만 현재 나라가 발전해 가면서 국민들이 많아지고 농업을 이어가고자 하는 젊은 세대들이 많이 줄어들어 점차 수입량을 늘리고 있다. 그러다 보니 시장에서 파는 야채와 과일들은 거의 대부분이 태국이나 베트남 등 주변 국가에서 들여온다.

간혹 대형마트에 캄보디아산 유기농 야채들을 팔지만 굉장히 비싼 가격에 팔린다. 캄보디아로 가장 많이 수입되는 야채와 과일은 배추, 무, 양배추, 당근, 오이, 양파, 파, 고추, 파인애플, 용과, 사과 등이 있다. 하지만 시장에서 과일과 야채를 사 먹을 때 주의해야 할 것은 싼 가격에 대량 유통되는 식료품은 약도 많이 치고 간혹 과일 표면을 매끄럽게 하기 위해 초를 바르기도 한다는 것이다. 모르고 많이 먹으면 건강을 해칠 수도 있다. 그래서 한동안 캄보디아 사람들은 베트남에서 들여온 과일과 야채를 피하기도 했었다. 식품 관련 문제가 생겼을 때는 지혜롭게 캄보디아 사람들이 하는 대로 따라 하는 것도 나쁘지 않다고 생각한다.
