“이 자리에 저희 은행 계좌를 소지한 학생이 있습니까?”

학생들이 수군거린다. 손을 든 학생은 거의 없었다. 여유로운 표정을 띈 신창무 프놈펜상업은행장은 웬지모를 어색한 분위기에도 말을 이어갔다.

“그래서 제가 이 자리에 있는 것입니다. 여러분이 저희 프놈펜상업은행의 미래입니다.”

의아한 표정을 짓는 학생들에게 이어 신 행장은 “프놈펜상업은행은 10년전 캄보디아에 처음 사업을 시작하고 현재까지 탄탄한 성장세를 보이며 전국적으로 이름을 알리고 있으나 여러분 중 저희 은행 계좌를 갖고 있는 사람이 없습니다. 이건, 다시 말해 저희 은행의 놀라운 잠재력을 보여줍니다. 제가 장담하건데 5년 후, 여기 이 자리에 참석한 학생들 중 반 이상이 저희 은행 고객이 될 것입니다. 그리고 10년 후, 아마도 모두가 저희 고객이 될 것입니다.”고 확신에 찬 목소리로 설명한다.

프놈펜상업은행과 한 글로벌 시장 리서치 회사가 공동조사한 <캄보디아인 은행 관심도> 결과에 의하면 75% 이상이 “은행업무는 복잡하다.” 라고 답변했다. 캄보디아인들은 은행에 방문하는 것 자체가 불편하고, 은행계좌를 만드는 것에 어려움을 느끼고 있다는 현실을 보여준다. 신 행장은 그 해법으로 현재 진행하고 있는 두가지 프로젝트를 설명했다.

펀 뱅크(FUN BANK)와 이지 뱅킹(EASY BANKING)이다. 우선 펀 뱅크는 은행 업무가 지루하지 않고 재미있다는 것을 강조한 프로젝트다. 프놈펜상업은행은 방문 고객에게 무료 아이스크림을 제공했다. 아주 작은 이벤트이지만 고객의 호응을 얻어낸 좋은 시도였다고 자체 평가했다. 펀 뱅킹 컨셉은 다양한 방식으로 점점 확장될 예정이다. 이지뱅킹의 좋은 예로 작년 11월 시작한 커피 뱅킹 프로젝트가 있다. 지점 내에 작은 커피숍을 열어 고객들이 텔러 앞에 앉는 대신 커피숍 테이블에 앉아서 커피나 음료를 주문하면 텔러들이 고객의 테이블에 찾아가서 은행 업무를 돕는 찾아가는 시스템이다. 보다 편리하고 친근한 방법으로 고객들이 은행 업무를 불편하게 느끼지 않도록 고안했다.

“어떻습니까? 오늘 우리의 미래와 꿈을
함께 나눌 여정에 동참하시겠습니까?”

신창무 행장이 마지막으로 던진 질문에 캄보디아 청년들의 가슴이 뛰기 시작했다./정인솔
