매일매일 장을 보는 캄보디아 사람들

한국 사람들은 보통 1 주일에 한번씩 장을 본다. 생활이 매우 바쁘기 때문에 대형 마트에서 1주일~2주일 동안 먹을 음식을 사 두고 먹는 것이 습관이 되었다. 반면에 캄보디아 사람은 이렇게 하지 않는다. 캄보디아 사람들은 매일매일 장을 본다. 무슨 이유로 이렇게 할까?

바로 캄보디아 사람들은 냉장고를 거의 사용하지 않기 때문이다. 전체 캄보디아 가구 중 냉장고를 쓰는 집은 10%도 안될 것이다. 냉장고가 없기 때문에 음식을 오래 보관할 수 없고 그래서 그날 먹을 음식을 그날 해서 먹는다. 당연히 장도 그날 그날 봐야 하는 것이다. 또한 캄보디아 사람들은 냉동 식품이나 가공 식품보다 싱싱한 음식을 선호한다. 그렇기 때문에 어떤 집은 냉장고를 살 돈이 충분히 있어도 냉장고에 넣어서 먹는 음식은 싱싱한 음식이 아니라고 생각해서 매일 장을 본다. 캄보디아 음식 중에서도 오랫동안 저장해서 먹는 쁘로혹(민물 생선 젓갈, 건어물, 피클, 젓갈)등이 있는데 이런 음식들은 냉장고 없이도 상온에서 보관할 수 있다.

그렇지만 최근 들어 캄보디아 사람들의 생활습관도 바뀌고 있다. 직장에 다니면서 바쁜 생활을 하기 시작하기 때문에 매일 장을 보기가 어려워지기 때문이다. 그래서 냉장고도 더 많이 팔리고 전기밥솥과 전자레인지 등도 쓰기 시작하고 있다. /놀 까니까
